Shoe Size Conversion Charts

Brannock Device - Used for measuring feet.

As anyone who has shopped for shoes knows, shoe sizes can be relative, arbitrary, or just useless. Go through your closet and you'll probably find several shoes that all fit the same, but are marked with many different sizes. These sizes can vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, and country to country. The end result is that while you may wear a size X in one shoe, that doesn't necessarily mean you should wear the same size in all your shoes.

Just to make matters worse, there are many different size scales used around the world. Some of the shoes in your closet may be marked in U.S. sizes, U.K. sizes, or one of the metric European or asian sizes. U.S. and U.K. men and women sizes are different from each other, but in the metric scales gender doesn't matter.

Widths aren't any better. Sometimes widths are expressed in letters (AAAA,AAA,AA,A,B,D,E,EE,EEE,EEEE,EEEEEE). Othertimes they are named (Narrow, Medium, Wide, etc.). The lettered widths are (generally speaking) absolute, while the labels are relative. A "B" width is considered "Medium" for women, but "Narrow" for men. A "D" width is "Medium" for men, but wide for women. And so on...

What all of this means is that buying shoes without trying them on first can be tricky. Ideally you should try on shoes before buying them, but finding time for that is easier said than done. While nothing can replace actually putting shoes on before buying them, we can at least try.

Below are some size conversion charts. First are some generic charts that are a good starting point in converting your size to another scale. Also included are the actual lengths of the feet each size is intended to fit. Please note these are approximate measurements, and that length is only one element that needs to be considered when fitting shoes. Below the generic charts are some brand-specific size conversion charts. These can be very useful when shopping for an unfamiliar brand. Note that not all of our brands are listed since many of our brands don't need conversion charts.

If your shoes hurt your feet, do not wear them. Even if the 'size' is correct. Properly fitting shoes will not hurt your feet.

If all else fails, remember we offer free shipping and free returns. Try something out. If for any reason you don't like it, return it for free within 30 days for a full refund.

Brand Specific Size Charts

Different brands use different sizing. One company's size X might not be another's size X, and trying to convert them to U.S. sizing only compounds the problem. While nothing can replace actually trying on a pair of shoes to find the best size, the following charts are better than wildly guessing.

FOOT LENGTH IS MEASURED IN INCHES - NOT SHOE SIZE! You need to take a ruler and measure your foot to determine the best size.
  1. Stand with your heels flush against a flat vertical wall.
  2. Slide a ruler under each foot and measure the distance from the wall to the tip of the longest toe.
  3. Take the longer of the two measurements and use it to determine your size on the chart below.
  4. If one foot is 1/6" or more longer than the other, or if the second toe is 1/6" or more longer than the big toe, it may be difficult to get a precise fit.
